Where DeSci Was Born

Before DeSci conferences became mainstream crypto events, Blockchain for Science was organizing the first international gatherings of scientists, developers, and visionaries who believed blockchain could transform research.

Landmark EventNovember 5–6, 2018

BFSCon 2018 — 1st International Conference

nhow Berlin · Berlin Science Week · 120+ attendees · 95+ presentations

The event that defined the field. Over 120 attendees from every continent gathered at the iconic nhow hotel on the Spree to discuss blockchain-powered science. 95+ presentations covered everything from token-curated registries for peer review to decentralized identity for researchers. This was the moment when “blockchain for science” became a real movement.

DAOs & FundingNovember 4–5, 2019

BFSCon 2019 — 2nd International Conference

Betahaus Neukölln, Berlin · 50+ speakers · Thematic tracks: Data, Publishing, Funding, Infrastructure, Decentralization

The second edition moved to Betahaus Neukölln (Harzer Str. 39) for a more intimate, workshop-focused format. Organized around five “New Deals” — on Data, Publishing, Funding, Infrastructure, and Decentralization — the conference reflected a maturing ecosystem. Discussions went deeper: DAOs replacing grant agencies, staking for peer review, prediction markets for research outcomes. Less hype, more substance.
